who knew flipper would be so hard to take a picture of?

so as my valentines day present to myself, i went on a tour if Hauraki Gulf to watch dolphins and other marine life

granted i don't have any basis for comparison but that was probably one of the most amazing things i have ever seen....although i am very burnt after 5 hours on a boat, it was well worth it. sadly the batteries to my digital camera ran out part way through, so i wasn't able to get a video of them swimming, but just to see it.....and the colour of the water, and the island, the camera doesn't even capture the beauty of it

enjoy

i have arrived....

well actually i got here on tuesday, but i finally have access to the internet....

this has been quite the journey....let me just begin with what i left behind:

the day i leave there is a ton of snow, which definately helped with wanting to leave, but it didn't help with the getting to the airport

i will say this though, leaving everything, and getting on that plane was so ridiculously hard. most people ive talked to have been incredibly jealous but to leave your family, your friends....your job, to go to another country, 18 hours away....very very difficult. but i managed, i've been in new zealand almost a week now, it doesnt feel like home yet, but i am definately glad i got on that plane.

the plane rides were long....very very long, but i did catch some decent movies, and even got some cool pictures in the process. although it would have been nice to see the grand canyon, too bad some guys head was in the way....

that was on the way to LA....i'm not sure exactly where that is, but it was my only opportunity to look at the window...the joys of being in an aisle seat

i was in the LA airport for about 4 hours, not that exciting really...but the weather was quite nice. my flight to auckland however was delayed an hour, because of mechincal difficulties....which wasnt very comforting since i'd never been on a plane before. anyway i attempted to sleep on my 12 hour flight....but i will tell you it is so hard to sleep on the plane, plus i kept tripping the flight attendant because my feet were in aisle....oops

finally arrived in auckland at 7 in the morning (tuesday), i lost monday.....which was kind of sad, but really who likes monday's anyway??

the security in the airport was a lot different then what it was like in LA....in the states the focus is on guns and drugs....in new zealand is whether you have any fruit or processed cheese. they even have little dogs that sniff for fruit...it was kind of interesting.

when we arrived the sun was shining....not a cloud in the sky....it was awesome. the awesomeness ended when we took the shuttle from the airport to where we are staying.....i actually thought i was going to die.....not only did i have to adjust to the fact that they drive on the other side of the road, but they are crazy drivers....i think our shuttle driver forgot that he even had a trailer on the back on the van....it was insane. but we finally made it

this is the sign leading into my campus....yep you're seeing lush green and blue sky :D

i've also discovered that i am 40 minutes walking distance from the beach, and that every where are great views.....here on some of the views from my neighbourhood

and here is the beach i was at yesterday....let me just say the sun is damn strong here

its been awhile....i know i know

yes that's right...that's my empty suit case...but it won't be empty for long....sunday i leave for new zealand so my blog will slightly change....it's still going to be a day in the life of me....but just in a different location

so the reason for my lack of posting is basically because i've been so busy getting stuff together, oh and also i was in a little bit of morning after the election (this is where leaving the country makes it better)

my london content was also lacking as well....more or less my blog has been lacking in general...but this is going to change.....i'll be away from london but i still plan to keep an eye out for ridiculousness in this city (which isn't going to be too hard) ...but i should have some better stories, and better pictures

hopefully i'll be able to post after my flight....im going to be losing my travel virginity....that's bound to have a good story...

over the past couple of days i've come to a couple of realizations.....i think im seriously going to miss london.....and i'm really going to miss my dogs....because that seems to be all i take pictures of lately....

that's malcolm (one of my sister's bulldogs)

that's reese (my other sister's boxer)

cleo (my lab)

and last but not least grady my other lab.....he doesn't like to have his picture taken...this was the best one:

oh and if one more person tells me that i'm going to meet and marry someone in new zealand i may or may not freak out and hurt them :)

cheers
